Myanmar's president on Monday vowed to assist international aid efforts to some 125,000 people displaced by sectarian fighting in Rakhine state last year, most of them Rohingya Muslims, dpa reported. That would include securing temporary shelters for the displaced before the monsoon, treating malnutrition in children, and preventing epidemics, President Thein Sein said on state television. International agencies have warned of a looming humanitarian crisis in Rakhine if the authorities do not facilitate aid deliveries to a dozen camps housing Rohingyas before the rains hit. The president also promised to "help those traumatized by violence ... and to create job opportunities for the people of Rakhine state."
