Mouallimi also said that Saudi Arabia and all Arab countries - through the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative - have shown their good intentions to achieve a just and lasting peace for Israel and Palestine, but the opportunity is deteriorating due to continuing Israeli aggression. On Syria, Al-Mouallimi said that the worsening humanitarian situation and the resulting outflow of refugees are posing a threat to security and stability in the region. He said that more than 100 countries now recognize the opposition Syrian National Council and that it is time for the Syrian people to have legitimate representation at international organizations. He said the current regime lost its legitimacy when it committed atrocities against its own people. At the outset of the meeting, Al-Mouallimi offered condolences to the United States over the terrorist bombings in Boston. He wished the victims a full and speedy recovery.
