El-Issa confirms Saudi Arabia's strict implementation of judicial rules and foreign arbitration and respect of int'l and regional treaties and agreements
Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkareem El-Issa, Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on a visit to the European Union authorities, has had talks in Luxemburg with the European Lawyers Union Chairman Roman Lottgen. During the meeting, which took place yesterday, Lottgen briefed the minister on the role of the union, noting that it consists of 2000 members from 27 EU member countries. El-Issa also met with the Chairman of the bar in Luxemburg Reneau Dedrich. Dedrich explained the work of the bar association and the services it renders to legal practice providers. During the two meetings, El-Issa confirmed the independence of the legal profession and practice in Saudi Arabia and non-interference of the government in its affairs or work. He told them that the role of the Ministry of Justice is confined to general supervision of the legal profession, support its providers and facilitate its procedure. He said a national committee is currently working on issuing the Lawyers Commission system, noting that currently the Saudi lawyer has proved to be present at international platforms with high proficiency. On the other hand, the minister delivered a lecture on Saudi Arabia's justice system, its organizational, procedural, technological, training, and construction updating in view of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud project to develop judicial practice. During the lecture, El-Issa cast light on the commercial and banking Islamic system as well as arbitration system, confirming that the judicial reference in the country depends on Islamic jurisdiction and judicial principles on which the strict implementation of judicial rules and foreign arbitration and respect of international and regional treaties, charters and agreements are cornerstones.
