French police Sunday said they were searching for an inmate who used explosives to blast through prison five doors and take four hostages during a jailbreak. Redoine Faid escaped the Sequedin prison Saturday using explosives that a female visitor may have passed to him in tissues earlier that day, UPI quoted police as saying. Faid took four hostages and released two outside the prison and left the other two next to a highway. State prosecutor Frederic Fevre said all four hostages were uninjured. Faid set fire to his first getaway car in the town of Ronchin and was on the loose in his second vehicle. French Justice Minister Christiane Taubira said a European arrest warrant covering 26 countries was issued for Faid and Interpol was working to track him down. Faid had been in the prison since 2011 for suspicion of masterminding an armed robbery that resulted in the death of a policewoman. He was serving the remaining 8 years on a 20-year prison sentence stemming back to 1998 when he was arrested for robbery. Faid was released early in 2009 and wrote a book about his criminal exploits. In his book, Faid said he had turned the page, but was put back in prison in 2011 to finish his 20-year sentence after the armed robbery.
