Mexican soldiers and federal police have detained 120 U.S.-bound Central American migrants who were traveling by bus through southern Mexico. A statement from the National Immigration Institute says the arrests were made after authorities reinforced their checks along highways in Oaxaca state after hearing reports of at least 1,000 migrants traveling in a cargo train headed north. The institute said Thursday 20 children are among those detained and that most of the detainees, 108, are from Guatemala. It also says the migrants were detained near the city of Ixtepec and in Oaxaca City. They will be deported, it added. Mexican authorities estimate that about 150,000 migrants, mostly Central Americans, cross Mexico on their way to the United States each year despite the perilous journey they face, AP reported.
