U.S. stocks closed higher Tuesday, with the Dow and the S&P 500 hitting new record highs. The dollar gained against the euro and the pound, but fell versus the yen. Light sweet crude oil for May delivery rose 12 cents to $97.19 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures lost $25.00 to $1,575.90. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 89.16, or 0.61 percent, to 14,662.01. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 8.08, or 0.52 percent, to 1,570.25. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index moved up 15.69, or 0.48 percent, to 3,254.86.
