At least two civilians were killed and seven others were injured Saturday in a NATO airstrike on Taliban positions in Afghanistan's eastern province of Ghazni, officials said. According to dpa, Afghan forces had appealed for NATO air support following a fight with the insurgents near Ghazni city, said Mohammad Ali Ahmadi, deputy governor of Ghazni. About a dozen Taliban fighters were killed in the gun-battle, while nine civilians, including two women and two children who had been travelling in a car, were injured in the airstrike, Ahmadi said. Two of the civilians later succumbed to their injuries in hospital. A NATO-led coalition official confirmed that skirmishes had taken place in the area. "We are investigating reports of civilian casualties. We take those allegations very seriously," Captain Dan Einert said.
