Police were searching for a lone gunman believed to have killed at least four people Wednesday in a shooting rampage in two towns in upstate New York, dpa reported. Police ordered a lockdown at local schools in the Mohawk Valley and public institutions such as the courts closed for the day because the gunman was still on the loose, media reports said. The suspect, named as Kurt Myers, is alleged to have shot and killed two people at 9:30 am local time at Gaffey's Car Wash in the town of Herkimer. Shortly after, state police said he shot and killed two more people at a barber shop in the village of Mohawk, where he also injured two others. There were reports that the gunman had barricaded himself in a boarded-up shop and was engaged in a shootout with police in Herkimer.
