The Japanese government nominated Asian Development Bank president Haruhiko Kuroda Thursday as the next governor of the country's central bank, dpa reported. Kuroda, a former deputy finance minister for international affairs, has expressed support for aggressive monetary easing, in line with the economic policies of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Abe took office in late December and has vowed to tackle the deflation that has plagued Japan for more than a decade. Kuroda has been ADB president since 2005, and was elected to his latest five-year term in 2011. As deputy finance minister, Kuroda was in charge of Japan's currency exchange policy between 1999 and 2003. The government also proposed Kikuo Iwata, professor of economics at Gakushuin University in Tokyo, and Hiroshi Nakaso, executive director of the central bank, as the next deputy governors.
