One of the most popular pages on the internet has received a makeover, dpa reported. Introducing a new Yahoo home page Wednesday, chief executive Marissa Mayer described it as more "modern, intuitive and personal." The new portal offers better customization tools than in the past, features an infinite scroll of articles, and is more tightly integrated with Facebook, she said in a blog. The redesigned page is optimized for use on PCs, smartphones and tablets, and is faster than its predecessor, said Mayer. All the content on the page is easily sharable via Facebook or Twitter. The updated home page was introduced as part of Mayer's efforts to re-establish web pioneer Yahoo as a premier internet destination after years in which it has fallen behind younger competitors such as Google and Facebook. The home page is the third major redesign overseen by Mayer, following revamps of the company's email service and photo-sharing service Flickr. Mayer, 37, was hired by Yahoo in July after working at Google for 13 years, during which she played a key role in the development of the company's signature products such as Google Search, News and Gmail.
