An EU arms embargo on Syria will be extended for a further 3 months beyond March 1, when it was due to expire, the bloc's foreign ministers decided in Brussels on Monday. However, the bloc's restrictive measures against Syria would be amended to "provide greater non-lethal support and technical assistance for the protection of civilians," the ministers wrote in their concluding statement. According to dpa, they also agreed to review, if necessary, the sanctions regime against Syria, "in order to help the opposition."
