Flights operated by Romanian company Carpatair on domestic Italian routes were suspended Sunday after one of its planes was blown off course while landing at Rome's main airport. At least 16 people were injured and two were listed in serious condition, after the turbo-propelled Pisa-Rome flight got into trouble late Saturday, according to a report of DPA. It was being operated on behalf of Italy's national carrier, Alitalia, and had 46 passengers and four crew members on board. The accident was caused by strong wind, Alitalia said, announcing it had decided to stop all subcontracted Carpatair flights between Rome, Pisa and Bologna. An investigation has been launched, and the stranded plane, lying sideways next to Rome Fiumicino's third runway, has been impounded.
