Following heavy rains and floods, thousands of crocodiles escaped from breeding farms and are on the loose in northern South Africa, according to media reports on Thursday. About 15,000 crocodiles escaped from the Rakwena Crocodile Farm in Limpopo province. Several thousand have been recaptured, but most remain free, dpa reported. "There used to be only a few crocodiles in the Limpopo River. Now there are a lot," a farmer told Beeld newspaper. Several wildlife resorts were devastated by the heavy rains and tourists needed to be evacuated from Kruger National Park. Police say several people died as a result of the floods. Neighbouring Mozambique is also being affected, with the government working to evacuate tens of thousands of people from areas prone to flooding.
