German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande said Tuesday they plan to hasten measures to deepen and strengthen Europe's currency union, dpa reported. Speaking at a joint press conference in Berlin, Merkel said the details of the measures would be unveiled in May as part of the buildup to the June summit of European leaders. The measures are likely to include steps to boost economic competitiveness in the eurozone, as the two nations seek to overcome the region's long-running debt crisis. The two leaders, who met as part of ceremonies marking the 50th anniversary of the Franco-German alliance, also plan to increase money to fund joint youth programmes.
