Prince Abdulaziz bin Majed bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Madinah Region and Chairman of Higher Committee for Events of Madinah, the Capital of Islamic Culture 2013, announced the launch of cultural and scientific activities and programs due to be hosted in Madinah starting from 8 Rabie I, 1434, corresponding to January 20,2013 for one year, including conferences, seminars, lectures and competitions that highlight the cultural and civilization status of the city of Madinah. The announcement came in a press conference held at the Prince's home here last night, in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Information and the Committee's Deputy Chairman Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja. The Prince commended the Saudi leadership for its great care and attention to Madinah, pointing to gigantic projects implemented in Madinah, notably the project of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for the largest expansion in the history of the Prophet's Holy Mosque. He stressed that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is very keen on the topic of establishing a great cultural library in Madinah to serve Muslims and intellectuals around the world. For his part, the Minister of Culture and Information pointed out that the ministry has developed a comprehensive plan for all activities throughout the year, including programs to be broadcast on radio, First Saudi Channel, Cultural Channel, and Ekhbariyah Channel, in addition to the participation of newspapers. Dr. Khoja praised the idea of holding a conference of archaeologists in Madinah, describing it as excellent.
