Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said Sunday he would step down as leader of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) after a smashing loss in Sunday's parliamentary elections. "I will resign as leader of the Democratic Party of Japan," he said as he took responsibility for the heavy defeat. The DPJ had 233 seats in the lower house of parliament going into the vote, but is now expected to command less than half that number.
