AlHijjah 28, 1433, Nov 13, 2012, SPA -- Natural disasters that hit Haiti in the past six months are threatening some 1.5 million people unless relief assistance is given to the country, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said Tuesday. The Caribbean nation had been hit by seasonal storms, including Hurricane Sandy in October, and drought spells, which affect the economy and crop plantation, dpa quoted WFP as saying. "At the moment, one of our biggest worries is in areas that are still isolated after Hurricane Sandy, where women and children face worsening nutrition," said Myrta Kaulard, WFP director in Haiti. "At the same time, it is crucial to help Haitian farmers so that they can plant crops for the small December season and for the main agricultural season in the spring."
