AlHijjah 28, 1433, Nov 13, 2012, SPA - At least eight people, including six children, were killed in an explosion at an illegal fireworks factory in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, police said Tuesday. The explosion took place in a house in the south-western district of Auraiyya overnight, and rescue operations went on until Tuesday morning. The blast was so powerful that it destroyed nearby houses. "Three girls and three boys under the age of 14 and two women died on the scene," area police chief Ramlal Pandey said by phone. Eight people in houses nearby were injured and were hospitalized with burn injuries, he was quoted as saying by DPA.
