AlHijjah 24, 1433, Nov 9, 2012, SPA - The United Nations warned on Friday that thousands of people will soon flee two volatile regions of Sudan to neighbouring South Sudan due to increasing insecurity, but refugee camps are facing an outbreak of the potentially lethal hepatitis E virus, dpa reported. The current rainy season is due to end in the coming weeks, and refugees are expected to make their way southwards once roads become passable. More than 1,000 cases of hepatitis E have been confirmed since September in refugee camps in South Sudan, with 26 deaths, the UN agency for refugees (UNHCR) said. Hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugee live in squalid camps in northern South Sudan, as conflict persists along the border region, despite international efforts to bring about a peace deal. Conflict between rebels, who Khartoum alleges are backed by Sudan, and the Sudanese army broke out in the border state of South Kordofan in June 2011, and spread to the south-eastern Sudanese state of Blue Nile a few months later. -- SPA
