AlHijjah 20, 1433, Nov 5, 2012, SPA -- European Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said Monday Spain was emerging from its economic crisis, even as the government announced yet another rise in unemployment figures. The crisis "is beginning to be overcome," the Spanish commissioner said at an economic forum in Madrid. He mentioned the growth of exports as a positive sign, and said "firm steps" were being taken that would lead to solid growth. Almunia, however, admitted that Europe was "intensely worried" about Spain's 25-per-cent unemployment rate. According to dpa, the number of registered job seekers rose for a third consecutive month in October to 4.8 million, the Labour Ministry said Monday. The figure marked a 2.7 per cent increase since September and a year-on-year increase of 10.8 per cent. Nearly 5.8 million people are currently without jobs in Spain, according to the National Statistics Institute. The economy is expected to contract by 1.5 per cent this year.
