AlHijjah 15, 1433, Oct 31, 2012, SPA -- Canada's gross domestic product (GDP) fell 0.1 percent in August amid widespread production decreases, Statistics Canada (Statscan) reported Wednesday from Ottawa. “Notable increases [in GDP] were recorded in the wholesaling of food products, of machinery, equipment and supplies, of building materials, of petroleum products, and of farm products," Statscan said. Within the goods-production sector, declines were seen in mining, oil and natural-gas extraction, manufacturing, utilities, and construction. Mining and energy extraction fell 0.7 percent in August, while oil and natural-gas extraction fell 2.8 percent. Manufacturing and utilities output each fell 0.6 percent, while construction dropped 0.1 percent, the report said.
