Despite its defeat in the away match in Yaounde by the Cameroonian team 1-2, Cote D'ivoire qualified on the aggregate. Ethiopia, absent from African finals for the last 31 years, disqualified neighboring Sudan after defeating them 2 love in this evening's match in Addis Ababa to win the aggregate resulting from its defeat in Khartoum 3-5. Also joining the qualifiers for South African finals including the host country were Ghana, Mali, Zambia, the champion, Nigeria, Tunis and Morocco while the match between Senegal and Ivory Coast was cancelled on sports riot at the stadium.
