AlQa'dah 13, 1433, Sep 29, 2012, SPA -- Flooding sparked by heavy rains has killed at least 10 people in southern Spain as hundreds of other people in Andalusia and Murcia were evacuated, media reports said Saturday. A 9-year-old girl was among the victims, five of whom died in Andalusia and five of whom perished in Murcia. According to dpa, several of the dead were discovered in cars or their homes. One elderly man died of a heart attack as a helicopter was airlifting him to safety. Speaking in the Basque city of Victoria, Spanish Prime Minister Mario Rajoy said his government would appeal to the European Union for disaster aid. Up to 200 litres of rain fell per square metre in Cadiz, the Madrid newspaper El Pais reported. Dailies also said 177 litres fell per square metre in one part of Murcia while the rate in Almeria province was 120 litres.
