AlQa'dah 1, 1433, Sep 17, 2012, SPA - The sector of telecommunications and information technology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made tremendous strides as one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. The indicators of the telecommunications and information technology sector for the year 2011 showed that this sector contributed 3% of Gross Domestic Product of the national economy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the total revenues of the operations of telecommunications companies inside and outside the Kingdom amounted to about SR84 billion. The indicators also pointed out that mobile phones have spread by 188% in terms of population size by the end of last year, which is ranked among the highest in the world, as well as the spread of the Internet at high rates over the past few years, rising from 5% in 2001 to about 47.5% at the end of the year 2011.
