Thousands of Guatemalans were able to return to their homes on Saturday, after being evacuated a day earlier because of ash spewing from the 3,763-metre-high Fuego Volcano. Around 10,000 people to the south-west of the volcano were evacuated after eruptions created an enormous ash cloud. But by Saturday the eruptions had become much weaker, dpa reported. On Friday they had been strong enough to fire ash to a height of 3,000 metres above the crater, Guatemala's national vulcanology institute Insivumeh said. Fuego has been the most active volcano in Central America in recent years, according to Insivumeh.
