A flood warning from Bangkok's city government was in force Friday for large parts of the city to be ready for possible flooding at the weekend due to a forecast of heavy rain, dpa reported. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration warned residents along the Chao Phraya River and other low-lying areas in the city to have pumps ready, floodwalls intact and to be prepared to move belongings to higher places. Parts of Bangkok flood nearly every year near the end of the rainy season in October as waters from the north flow through the city during times of heavy rain. The government has been more sensitive this year after the worst floods in decades last year left more than 800 people dead and cost billions of dollars to the economy in the central plains.
