King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has conducted over 82 research studies in the sector of palms and dates worth more than SR 44 million. The studies included among others biological and environmental studies on palm insecticides, plant diseases that infect palms in the region, and restriction of pathogenic fungi palms. It is noteworthy that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the largest producers of dates in the world; it has more than 25 million palm trees, and its dates products represent 15% of world production.
