Britain's Queen Elizabeth II yesterday evening opened the XIV Paralympic Games in London following the successful staging of the 2012 London Olympic Games in the city earlier this month. The queen declared the Paralympic Games open in a colorful ceremony in the Olympic stadium in Stratford, east London. Opening ceremony was attended by Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom; Prince Salman bin Mohammed bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz; Dr. Nasser Al-Saleh, Head of Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which participated in London 2012 Olympic Games, and heads of delegations of the participating countries. Four athletes representing Saudi Arabia in London 2012 Paralympic Games will compete on six medals in two games. Later, the ceremonial cauldron was lit, signaling the beginning of the Games which run until September 9. The London 2012 Paralympic Games are the biggest ever staged, with a record number of competitors and 2.4 million tickets sold. More than 160 nations are represented.
