A union representing cabin crew at Lufthansa, Germany's largest airline, said it plans to stage strikes on Friday but won't say where, exactly when or for how long, AP reported. UFO union chairman Nicoley Baublies told the dapd news agency Thursday the secrecy is deliberate so that Lufthansa won't have the time or opportunity to prepare for the work stoppage. He said "we certainly won't strike at two-thirds of all German airports right away, but we're leaving it open if it will be one, two or three." Bild newspaper reports the union rejected Lufthansa's proposal of a 3.5 percent raise as insufficient after last-minute negotiations failed early Wednesday. Lufthansa says it's prepared for the strike and might divert some passengers to partner airlines, but that people should expect delays and cancellations.
