Tropical Storm Isaac made landfall Saturday in south-western Haiti, where tens of thousands of people remain homeless two-and-a-half years after a devastating earthquake, dpa reported. Isaac lashed Haiti with torrential rains and gale force winds, as it did neighbouring Dominican Republic. Both countries form the island of Hispaniola. The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami warned Saturday that the heavy rains could cause "life-threatening flash floods and mud slides" on Hispaniola. There were no immediate reports of extensive damage or casualties.
