South African President Jacob Zumaestablished on Friday a formal commission of inquiry to investigate the deaths of 44 people during unrest at a platinum mine in the north of the country, dpa reported. "We must get to the truth. This is a shocking thing. We do not know where it comes from and we have to address it," Zuma said about the violence at the Lonmin mine in the North-West province, where 34workers were shot to death by police officers on Thursday. "We remain fully committed that ensuring this country remains a peaceful stable productive and thriving nation, that is focused on improving the quality of life of all," the president said.
