Flood-weary Filipinos on Monday braced for more rains as a storm barreled towards the north of the country, after monsoon downpours last week left at least 92 people dead. Tropical Storm Kai-Tak, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometres per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 80 kph, was set to bring moderate to heavy rains over the northern and central Philippines, the weather bureau was quoted as saying by DPA. Kai-Tak, locally named Helen, was moving west-northwest at 13 kph. The weather bureau has already raised storm warnings over the northernmost provinces. The areas predicted to be hit include Manila and northern provinces that were inundated from last Tuesday, affecting more than 3 million people and displacing more than 500,000.
