At least two people were killed and many injured Saturday in an explosion at a fireworks store in central Pakistan, rescue officials said. The incident occurred in the Hussain Agahi area of Multan city, 288 kilometers south-east of capital Islamabad. "Two people were killed and many others injured due to the explosion," Rescue official Mohammad Iqbal was quoted as saying by DPA. He said the blast was so powerful that a three-storey building near the store collapsed and several other buildings caught fire. Iqbal said a large quantity of material used for making fireworks was stored in a building in the densely populated area of the city. Officials said the toll could rise as some people might be trapped under the debris.
