Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United Nations Abdallah Y. Al-Mouallimi said that Friday's vote by the General Assembly to denounce the Syrian government for its violent crackdown over the past 17 months was a victory for the Syrian people. "Today is a victory for the Syrian people. It is a reflection of the will of the international community to respond with one voice," Ambassador Mouallimi told reporters after the vote at U.N. headquarters in New York. "We have seen the result that demonstrates the broad consensus within the international community, a consensus that does not support the paralysis of the Security Council," Ambassador Mouallimi said. He also thanked the member states who voted for the measure.
