Eurozone consumer spending registered a monthly increase in June, exceeding analysts' expectations, data released by the European Union statistical office showed on Friday, according to dpa. Month-on-month, June retail trade was up 0.1 per cent, following on from a 0.8-per-cent expansion in May, Eurostat said. However, compared to a year before, the index was down by 1.2 per cent. Analysts had been predicting a 0.1-per-cent monthly drop and a 1.9-per-cent annual decrease in sales. In the wider 27-member EU, June retail trade was down 0.3 per cent on a monthly basis and down 0.7 per cent on a yearly one.
