The U.N. Security Council Tuesday extended the mandate of peacekeepers in Sudan's Darfur region, but is reducing the size of the force. The Security Council adopted a resolution extending the joint U.N.-African Union mission in Darfur, known as UNAMID, through July 31 of next year. The resolution lowers the number of troops in the force to 16,200 from 19,000. The resolution passed with 14 votes in favor and one abstention, Azerbaijan.
