Landslides and flashfloods triggered by Typhoon Vicente have left nine dead and one missing in northern Vietnam, dpa cited authorities as saying Friday. Among the dead were a married couple in Tuyen Quang province who were killed when over 1,000 cubic metres of sand hit their home Thursday, the Central Steering Committee for Storm and Flood Control said in a report. A landslide also killed a 28-year-old woman, her 5-year-old daughter and 4-month-old son when they were sleeping in their home in Ha Giang province Wednesday night. Authorities discovered their bodies on Thursday morning. The typhoon washed away or damaged nearly 350 houses and inundated nearly 1,200 hectares of rice and vegetables. The typhoon was downgraded to an area of low pressure after it moved north into Laos.
