The new ruling coalition in Serbia on Monday elected Nebojsa Stefanovic as parliament speaker, paving the way for the next government to take over, dpa reported. The coalition grouped around President Tomislav Nikolic's Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), prime minister-designate Ivica Dacic's Socialist Party (SPS) and the United Regions of Serbia (URS) backed Stefanovic with 142 votes in the 250-seat legislature. Parliament is scheduled to pass several laws on Wednesday before Dacic's cabinet can be sworn in. The SNS won the most votes in May 6 elections and Nikolic defeated the two-time president Boris Tadic, whose Democratic Party is now in the opposition.
