An Austrian court has banned cows from wearing cowbells in a field where they were disturbing the night peace, in a ruling published Tuesday, dpa reported. The judge, in the state of Styria, argued that there was no reason for the cows to wear bells as they were in an enclosed field, not an alpine pasture. Neighbours had gone to court because they were kept awake by the sound of the cows moving at night and eating from a metal feeding trough. Cowbells are fitted to freely roaming cows so they can be found again if they wander off from the herd.
