Japan's ambassador to China, Uichiro Niwa, temporarily returned to Tokyo Sunday amid renewed tensions about islands disputed by the two nations, dpa reported. Niwa told reporters before his departure that he would come back to Tokyo to discuss the latest development over a disputed set of islands in the East China Sea, the Kyodo News reported. Japan claimed Chinese vessels intruded into Japanese waters near the island Wednesday and Thursday. The incidents came soon after the Japanese government indicated it intended to nationalize the Senkaku islands. The islands, also called Diaoyu in China and Tiaoyutai in Taiwan, are claimed by all three. Niwa said he had not decided when he would return to Beijing.
