Sri Lankan police and navy have arrested a total of 129 people on suspicion of attempting to migrate illegally to Australia, officials said Sunday according to dpa. The navy arrested 109 people in a fishing trawler off Kalkudha, 280 kilometers east of the capital on suspicion they were heading to Australia, on Saturday. "They were possession of a large quantity of dry rations, drinking water and other personal belongings raising suspicion that they were heading to Australia", a navy spokesman said. Separately, 20 people also preparing to leave for Australia were arrested in the north western coast by police Sunday. The group were being transported to a trawler in the Chilaw area, 80 kilometres north of the capital Colombo, when they were intercepted by police.
