Police say gunmen killed seven people and wounded 10 during the loud street celebrations after the Palmeiras football team won the Brazilian Cup. The shooting took place late Wednesday and early Thursday in the city of Osasco. Police say in an emailed statement that although the victims were in the midst of the celebration, none were Palmeiras fans. The statement says that the gunmen "took advantage of the noise of fireworks to mask the noise of the gunshots." In Brazil, fireworks are often set off during celebrations commemorating a soccer club's victory of a major tournament, AP reported. Police say they the killings could be drug related. Further details were not immediately available.
