The United States does not support Israeli settlement activity in the occupied West Bank and opposes legalization of the construction, the State Department reiterated. “We do not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity, and we oppose any effort to legalize outposts," Patrick Ventrell, a department spokesman, told reporters in response to an Israeli commission finding that West Bank settlements cannot be considered illegal.
