Palestinians on Saturday called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss Israeli settlement activities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to dpa. The Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority said in a statement that continued settlement construction on land the Palestinians want for a state had reached a critical level. "The rise in settlement activities in Jerusalem, the expropriation of land and the displacement of residents from their homes are proof of a dangerous Israeli government plan to undermine the two-state solution," it said in a statement. The statement was issued after a meeting of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee headed by President Mahmoud Abbas.
