Given the disastrous and deteriorating humanitarian and security situations in neighboring Syria, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today vowed support for a recommendation submitted at the current extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Jeddah-based Islamic Cooperation Organization to suspend Syria's membership to the OIC. In his country's speech, Prince Dr. Turki bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Kabeer, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral relations, described the situation in Syria as tragic and necessitates for all parties to show maximum cooperation and serious and prompt action for the needy and the oppressed in Syria to give the Syrian people a glimpse of hope that their severe and aggravating ordeal would come to an end. He urged the Islamic community and the world at large not to become a mere onlooker to the humanitarian affliction in Syria. He demanded for an effective action to make the UN-AL envoy plan a success to bring about peace and stop bloodshed and massacre in Syria. Reminding the conferees that seven months ago this meeting urged Syria to cooperate to carry out the world's plan to save innocent souls in the country, Prince Dr. Turki said the crisis in Syria is nose-diving and that scenarios of killings, bloodshed and demolition are in an increasing rhythm. He said the Syrian crisis is now a source of worry and great concern to the world community in general and the Islamic nation in particular and it endangers security and peace in the entire region. --More
