Heavy storms have swept across central China's Hunan Province since June 9, leaving seven people dead and affecting more than 100,000 others, local authorities said Monday. Precipitation over the last 24 hours exceeded 200 mm in Hongjiang district and Huitong county, located in the city of Huaihua. The storms interrupted traffic on several roads, as well as damaged crops and disabled power and telecommunication lines, Xinhua quoted the city government as saying. Rains in other parts of the province have caused landslides and floods, as well as halted railways and destroyed some homes.
