Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic Friday was elected president of the 67th session of the U.N. General Assembly, which opens in September. Jeremic was elected on behalf of the Eastern European group and defeated Lithuanian U.N. Ambassador Dalius Cekuoli by a vote of 99 to 85. Jeremic will take over from Qatar's Nassir Abdulaziz Al Nasser. U.N. rules stipulate that the president of the General Assembly oversees debate in the chamber and “shall have complete control of the proceedings at any meeting and over the maintenance of order.”
