Three people were killed Wednesday in two separate attacks in the city of Mosul in northern Iraq, a security official said. Police spokesman Hassan Al-Jubari told dpa that two soldiers had been killed when gunmen fired on an army checkpoint south of Mosul, located 400 kilometers north of the capital Baghdad. In a separate incident, a lawyer was shot and killed by gunmen near his home in the city's western Yarmouk district, added the official. "The police have arrested four of the lawyer's attackers," al-Jubari said. Eight other members of the suspected group were later arrested, he added.
