A typhoon has left three children dead and six fishermen missing in the Philippines, the Office of Civil Defence said Monday. Hundreds of passengers were also stranded in eastern provinces after sea travel and some domestic flights were cancelled due to typhoon Mawar, according to a report of DPA. The civil defence office said the three children drowned in swollen rivers in the western province of Palawan and Rizal province, just east of Manila, on the weekend. Six fishermen from the provinces of Romblon and Catanduanes were also missing after putting out to sea despite warnings by authorities. Thirty-two fishermen were earlier rescued off the coast of Catanduanes after their boat stalled in rough seas. Mawar, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometres per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 170 kph, brought heavy rains and strong winds to the Philippines since Friday.
