Abdullah bin Fahd Al-Hussein, the Director General of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), has expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for today's Cabinet approval of transforming SPA into a public commission. He also thanked Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja for his constant dedication to carrying out the royal instructions for transferring SPA to a public commission, through his close follow-up of the performance of the ad hoc committee he formed earlier to conduct a study and review a draft proposal for transforming SPA, Saudi Radio and Television into two public commissions. Al-Hussein said that "since the issuance of the Cabinet's decision in 2005, everybody is gearing forward to this day when SPA would be transferred into a general commission as the new status would grant the news agency of Saudi Arabia a full-fledged mechanism to do its work as per the advanced media requirements, a step that would contribute to giving the Kingdom a distinguished media presence reflecting its profile and role at the international level in all political, economic and humanitarian fields." SPA director explained that this decision would be a strong impetus to the development of media action of SPA and an historical step that would motivate us to go forward towards wider media and information potentials. He added that the decision to turn SPA into a public organization would open a wide range and create an open space for SPA to place itself among the world's pioneering news agencies through the independent facilities it would gain and use in its new launch.
